Sri Lanka's tour of India, December 2026
The BCCI confirmed this tour in March 2026 as part of the 2026-27 home international season. Three ODIs come first, all day-night games starting at 14:00, then three T20Is under lights at 19:00. Delhi, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad take the fifty-over games, Rajkot, Cuttack and Pune the short ones.

Where the two sides can meet at the 2027 World Cup
They were drawn apart. Group A holds India, Australia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe and Qualifier A. Group B holds New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, England, Bangladesh and Qualifier B. No group game between them, then.
Twelve of the fourteen teams sit in those two groups of six, and the last spot goes to the winner of the Super Series in Windhoek on 2, 4 and 6 October 2027. The top three in each group, plus the better fourth-placed side, go into the Super 7, which runs from 25 October to 14 November 2027: six matches per team, single round robin, no points carried over.
Match 54, on 14 November 2027 at Kingsmead Cricket Ground in Durban, is listed as A1 v B3, and the ICC's seeding for that fixture list puts India at A1 and Sri Lanka at B3. Finish anywhere else in your group and the pairing shifts, so read it as a slot rather than a confirmed date.

The finals that built this rivalry
Sri Lanka's one ODI World Cup title came in 1996 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, a seven-wicket win over Australia with Aravinda de Silva taking the match award. Fifteen years later India lifted the trophy at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai by beating Sri Lanka by six wickets, which is still the only World Cup final the two have played against each other.
The T20 version went the other way. In the 2014 final Sri Lanka chased down India's 130/4 with 134/4 in 17.5 overs.
The heaviest result between them is recent and one-sided: India beat Sri Lanka by 302 runs on 2 November 2023, their biggest World Cup win by runs. The two boards then co-hosted the 2026 Men's T20 World Cup, which India won by 96 runs against New Zealand in Ahmedabad on 8 March 2026. That tournament has its own page on the T20 World Cup section.
