India T20 World Cup Squad and the Road to 2027
India are the reigning men's T20 world champions, and the India T20 World Cup squad that delivered that title in March 2026 is still the starting point for every argument about the side that travels to Africa next year. This page sets out what the record shows: who scored and who took wickets in the winning campaign, how India came through each stage, and which matches come next.
All figures here were confirmed against the operator's published pages on 24 October 2026.
The men's 50 over World Cup moves to South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia in October 2027, and India already know their group, their opening opponent and the date of the Pakistan game.
India squad for T20 World Cup 2026 and the players who won it
India won Group A with four wins from four matches and eight points. The one everybody watched was the Pakistan game in Colombo on 15 February 2026, and India took it by 61 runs.
The Super 8 was rougher. India finished second in Group 1 with two wins and one loss from three matches, four points, and the loss was ugly: South Africa outplayed them in what goes down as India's biggest defeat at a T20 World Cup. Second place was still enough to reach the knockouts.
From there the team found its level again. India beat England by 7 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on 5 March, then met New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on 8 March and posted 255/5. New Zealand were bowled out for 159 and India won by 96 runs for a third men's T20 title.
Three names carry that run. Sanju Samson was named player of the tournament. Jasprit Bumrah took the player of the final award and finished as joint leading wicket-taker with 14, level with Varun Chakravarthy, which tells you how much of the bowling load went to those two. The highest run scorer of the competition was Pakistan's Sahibzada Farhan with 383, and he went home without a medal.

India's route to the 2026 trophy, match by match
The shape of the campaign matters if you are judging who should keep their place. India were perfect in the group, patchy in the Super 8 and ruthless in the two knockout games. More on the tournament itself is on the T20 World Cup page.

How a group win turns into a semi-final place
The top three in each group plus the better fourth placed side go into the Super 7. Points do not carry over, so a flying group stage buys India a seeding and nothing else. India are seeded A1, which sets their Super 7 opponents from 25 October to 14 November, six matches each, with the top four of those seven reaching the semi-finals.
The semi-finals are on 17 November in Cape Town and 18 November in Tshwane. The final is at the Wanderers in Johannesburg on 21 November, with 22 November held as a reserve day. Ticket prices announced by the ICC run from USD $9.62 (R158) to USD $31.31 (R514), and since pricing moves, check the official ticketing page before you book flights. The full match list is on the schedule page.
Indian names in the World Cup record books

Virat Kohli's 765 runs in 2023 is the biggest haul by an Indian in a single tournament, and Mohammed Shami's 7/57 against New Zealand on 15 November 2023 is India's best innings return. India's highest total is 413/5 against Bermuda in 2007 and their largest win by runs is 302 over Sri Lanka on 2 November 2023.
The women's side added the one trophy India had never held. They beat South Africa by 52 runs at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on 2 November 2025, India 298/7 against 246. Shafali Verma was player of the final, Deepti Sharma player of the tournament with 22 wickets. Full lists sit on the records page.
