India vs Australia fixtures, results and records
India vs Australia is the fixture Indian and Bangladeshi fans plan their evenings around, and the next two seasons are full of it. Five Tests for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy run from 21 January to 3 March 2027, and then the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027 hands India the same opponent in its very first match, at Newlands in Cape Town on 7 October 2027.
All figures here were confirmed against the operator's published pages on 24 October 2026.
This page keeps the lot in one place: the Test dates and grounds, the World Cup group fixture, the Super 7 rematch the draw already points to, and the numbers both sides carry into South Africa.
Five Tests for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy
Australia's last Test tour of India was in 2022-23, so this is a long gap closing. The BCCI confirmed the fixtures in March 2026 as part of its 2026-27 home season, and all five Tests count towards the 2025 to 2027 ICC World Test Championship.
The venue list is the talking point, because it leans away from India's usual Test grounds. Chennai had not staged a Test since 2024, and Australia had not played one at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium since 2013. The Assam Cricket Association Stadium in Guwahati had hosted a single Test since it opened in 2012. Ranchi had three since its first in 2017. The series finishes in Ahmedabad at the 100,000-seat Narendra Modi Stadium, the ground where Australia lifted the 2023 World Cup.
If you are planning travel, the longest break falls between the second Test in Chennai and the third in Guwahati, a little over a week.

A second meeting is already pencilled in for Victoria Falls
The top three from each group go through to the Super 7, plus the better of the two fourth-placed sides. Those seven play a single round robin from 25 October to 14 November 2027, six matches each, and no points are carried over from the groups.
The fixture list seeds India as A1 and Australia as A2. That pairing is match 37, on 28 October 2027 at the Mosi-oa-Tunya International Cricket Stadium in Victoria Falls, a ground that seats 10,000. Finish where the draw expects and the two sides play each other twice inside three weeks on different sides of the Limpopo.
The top four from the Super 7 go to semi-finals on 17 November 2027 in Cape Town and 18 November 2027 in Tshwane. The final is at the Wanderers in Johannesburg on 21 November 2027, with 22 November 2027 held as a reserve day.

World Cup numbers both sides carry in
Two finals India lost to Australia
The rivalry's heaviest nights both ended the same way. On the 2003 final at the Wanderers in Johannesburg, Australia won by 125 runs. Twenty years later, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Australia chased India's total and won the 2023 final by 6 wickets for a sixth title.
The 2027 final returns to the Wanderers, which gives the whole thing a neat shape if both reach it. More finals, and who won them, sit on the winners page; the batting and bowling records are on the stats page.
When the women's teams met
India's women went through Australia to win the 2025 World Cup. After finishing fourth in the league stage with three wins from seven matches and seven points, India beat Australia by 5 wickets in the semi-final, then beat South Africa by 52 runs in the final at the DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai, on 2 November 2025. Deepti Sharma took 22 wickets and was player of the tournament; Shafali Verma was player of the final.
The 2026 Women's T20 World Cup in England went the other way. Australia won the group meeting by 6 wickets, India finished third in Group A on six points and went out, and Australia took a seventh title by beating England by 7 wickets at Lord's. Both runs are covered on the women's World Cup page.
