Bangladesh cricket T20 World Cup record and the road to 2027

Bangladesh cricket T20 World Cup history fits on a single page: two runs to the Super 8s, one tournament hosted at home, and a 2026 edition the side never played. That is the honest starting point for anyone following the team through to the next ICC events.

All figures here were confirmed against the operator's published pages on 24 October 2026.

The next big one is already fixed. The 2027 Cricket World Cup runs from 2 October to 21 November across South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia, 14 teams and 57 matches, and Bangladesh sit in Group B with England, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka and a qualifier. Their five group fixtures, start times and venues are below, along with the records the side carries into them.

Bangladesh T20 World Cup record, edition by edition

Two Super 8 appearances is the ceiling so far: the first edition in South Africa in 2007, then 2024 in the West Indies and the United States. Nothing deeper, no semi-final.

Bangladesh staged the 2014 tournament, and the final there went to Sri Lanka, who chased down India's 130/4 with 134/4 in 17.5 overs. A home crowd, someone else's trophy lift.

The 2026 edition is a blank line in the record. Bangladesh were replaced by Scotland after refusing to play in India, so between 7 February and 8 March 2026 the team has no result at all. India won that tournament for a third title, beating New Zealand by 96 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on 8 March, with Sanju Samson player of the series and Jasprit Bumrah player of the final. Jasprit Bumrah and Varun Chakravarthy shared the wicket-taking lead on 14 each, while Pakistan's Sahibzada Farhan made the most runs with 383.

More on that tournament and the earlier editions sits on the T20 World Cup page.

The women's side at the 2026 T20 World Cup in England

The women's team did play in 2026. England hosted from 12 June to 5 July, 12 teams and 33 matches, and Bangladesh were drawn in Group A with Australia, India, Netherlands, Pakistan and South Africa. Two wins, three defeats, four points, fourth in the group and out.

The four-wicket loss to South Africa in the final group match was the one that hurt, because the margins stayed small all week. India went out too, third in the same group on six points. Australia took the title, their seventh, beating England by seven wickets at Lord's.

How Group B turns into a Super 7 place

The 2027 format gives a middle-ranked side more room than a straight knockout, and it also means one bad week is survivable. Twelve of the 14 teams are split into two groups of six, with the qualifiers joining them.

Nothing carries over into the Super 7, which is why a side can scrape through fourth and still be live in November.

  1. Each Group B team plays the other five once between 7 and 24 October 2027.
  2. The top three in each group advance, plus the better of the two fourth-placed finishers.
  3. Those seven play a single round robin from 25 October to 14 November, six matches each, and group points are wiped.
  4. The top four after the Super 7 reach the semi-finals, on 17 November in Cape Town and 18 November in Tshwane.
  5. The final is at the Wanderers in Johannesburg on 21 November, with 22 November held as a reserve day.
  6. Ticket prices were announced in a band from USD $9.62 (R158) to USD $31.31 (R514); the official ticketing page carries the current prices per match.

Questions Bangladesh fans are asking

Did Bangladesh play in the 2026 T20 World Cup?
No. Scotland took their place after Bangladesh refused to play in India. The tournament ran from 7 February to 8 March 2026 across India and Sri Lanka, with 20 teams and 55 matches, and India won it.
What is Bangladesh's best result at a men's T20 World Cup?
The Super 8s, reached in 2007 in South Africa and again in 2024 in the West Indies and United States. Bangladesh also hosted the 2014 edition, where Sri Lanka beat India in the final.
When is Bangladesh's first match at the 2027 World Cup?
8 October 2027 against England at the Namibia Cricket Ground in Windhoek, 12:30 local time (UTC+2). It is match 6 of the tournament, two days after the group stage opens.
Who else is in Bangladesh's group?
Group B is New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, England, Bangladesh and Qualifier B. Group A has India, Australia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe and Qualifier A, so an India v Bangladesh meeting could only happen in the Super 7 or later.
How did Bangladesh's women do at the 2025 World Cup?
Seventh. They qualified through the 2025 Qualifier, then played seven league matches for one win, five defeats and one no result, three points, and were eliminated after the match 21 loss to Sri Lanka. India won that tournament, beating South Africa by 52 runs at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on 2 November 2025.
