India cricket schedule from the New Zealand tour to the 2027 World Cup

If you came here for the india cricket schedule, the short version is this: India are in New Zealand until 1 December 2026, Sri Lanka arrive in December 2026, Zimbabwe play three ODIs in January 2027, Australia come for five Tests from 21 January 2027, and then the big one, the ICC Cricket World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia, where India open against Australia in Cape Town on 7 October 2027 and face Pakistan in Johannesburg on 10 October 2027.

All figures here were confirmed against the operator's published pages on 24 October 2026.

Every date below carries its year, every venue is named, and the World Cup fixtures are the ones the ICC published when it released the schedule. India go into that tournament as reigning T20 world champions after beating New Zealand by 96 runs in the final at Ahmedabad on 8 March 2026.

India in New Zealand, October and November 2026

The tour runs from 22 October 2026 to 1 December 2026 and packs in five T20Is, five ODIs and two Tests. Shubman Gill leads in Tests and ODIs, Shreyas Iyer has the T20I side, and Mitchell Santner captains New Zealand in the white-ball legs.

India lead the T20I series 2-0. The opener at Hagley Oval, Christchurch on 22 October 2026 was a chase of 226, which India got with two balls to spare: Glenn Phillips made 82 not out off 40 for New Zealand, Sanju Samson hit 67 off 33 and took the match award. Two days later at the same ground India chased 181 with one ball left, Tilak Varma 51 not out off 26, after Santner had taken 4/21.

The two Tests count towards the 2025-2027 World Test Championship cycle, so the Wellington and Christchurch matches carry more than tour pride.

New Zealand tour fixtures and venues

Night matches in New Zealand start at 20:00 local, the ODIs at 15:00 day-night. Work out your own start time from that, since New Zealand runs well ahead of IST and BST.

Sri Lanka in India, December 2026

Sri Lanka tour India from 13 December 2026 to 27 December 2026 for three ODIs and three T20Is. The BCCI confirmed the fixtures in March 2026 as part of the 2026-27 home season.

The ODIs are in New Delhi on 13 December 2026, Bengaluru on 16 December 2026 and Ahmedabad on 19 December 2026, all 14:00 day-night starts. The T20Is follow at Rajkot on 22 December 2026, Cuttack on 24 December 2026 and Pune on 27 December 2026, each at 19:00. Three of those grounds, Rajkot, Cuttack and Pune, rarely get an India international, so tickets there go quickly.

Zimbabwe's three ODIs in January 2027

Zimbabwe play India from 3 January 2027 to 9 January 2027, their first bilateral tour of India since 2002. All three are ODIs, all 14:00 day-night: Eden Gardens, Kolkata on 3 January 2027, Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad on 6 January 2027, and Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on 9 January 2027.

It is a short series with a useful subplot. Zimbabwe co-host the World Cup later that year and India must visit Victoria Falls in the group stage, so both sides get an early look at each other. The India v Zimbabwe page has the full card.

Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2027: five Tests at home

Australia tour India from 21 January 2027 to 3 March 2027 for five Tests, their first Test tour here since 2022-23, with the Border-Gavaskar Trophy on the line. The five matches belong to the 2025-2027 World Test Championship.

The venue list raised eyebrows when the BCCI announced it in March 2026, because these are not India's usual Test grounds. Chennai had not staged a Test since 2024 and Australia had not played one there since 2013. Guwahati has hosted a single Test since the ground opened in 2012. Ranchi has had three Tests since its first in 2017.

What happens after the group stage

The top three in each group go through, plus the better fourth-placed side, making a seven-team Super 7 stage. It runs from 25 October to 14 November 2027, six matches per team, and no points carry over from the groups, so a side that stumbles early still starts level.

The first Super 7 match is A2 against B3 at Johannesburg on 25 October 2027. Seeding in the published fixture list reads India as A1, Australia A2, Pakistan A3, New Zealand B1, South Africa B2, Sri Lanka B3 and England as the best fourth-placed team.

Semi-final 1 is at Cape Town on 17 November 2027 and semi-final 2 at Tshwane on 18 November 2027. The final is at Johannesburg on 21 November 2027, with 22 November 2027 kept as the reserve day. Bangladesh fans have a route of their own to follow: Bangladesh open against England at Windhoek on 8 October 2027, then meet New Zealand, Sri Lanka, South Africa and Qualifier B, all set out on the full schedule page.

Bangladesh finished seventh with one win from seven.

Four months later the men won the T20 World Cup on home soil. Sanju Samson was player of the tournament, Jasprit Bumrah took the final award and shared the wicket count on 14 with Varun Chakravarthy. Bangladesh did not play: they were replaced by Scotland.
